Caught up?

It's only taking until Wednesday to catch up on my week! Not a long post needed to do that either. Firstly, A picture that brings a smile to my face..... The garage paint job 'scheduled' for this spring has actually begun!!!! Patrick just needed a gentle suggestion that I had the name of a painter looking for work to get out and protect his bank account! Since I showed you the mobile clinic that I work on I thought I might show you where I worked this week... certainly more square footage than the van!!! The negatives were that the hygienists had units all around the gym so we could control the electrical load on their circuits AND we had to share the space with the gym teacher! All I can say is MEN!!!!!!!! Not only did he 'jokingly' threaten to send misbehaved over to "see the dentist" he also kept to his curriculum...BASKETBALL! Yes, we dodged many an errant shot and as if our compressors weren't loud enough we had the gym class screaming too. Now it was perfect weather outside so why he couldn't have gone for some softball or track I do not understand?!?! This is the 'waiting room' :) The fantastic thing about working in the schools is PEER PRESSURE! The nervous, anxious kids are molded into compliant patients for fear of being seen as 'sissies' by their classmates...especially since all we do in the schools are sealants and cleanings. It is also a blessing to be spared having to deal with all the smotheringly, over-protective, internet educated Mothers. I could never go back into private practice even with the huge difference in pay scale. My bare bones exam station! My stool, a portable exam chair, a portable exam light, box of instruments, box of head rest covers, bottle of hand sanitizer, and box of gloves and I'm good to go! Like the time of my last rant, I need a day or two after working to get over the feelings of seeing so many children with dire dental needs in a community (let alone country) of such plenty. The ridiculously structured fear tactics spreading through the country right now about "rationing" of health care are laughable to those of us working in the medical field. Rationing has been going on for decades in this country! It used to just be rationed for the poor without insurance but now they are being joined by the working class insured who cannot get their insurance companies to approve coverage. I saw SEVEN children with MULTIPLE abscesses each?!?! These are the people we are counting on to lead our country and care for us in our old age and we expect them to learn anything while they have 3-4 abscessed teeth?!?! Just in case you subscribe to the "They're just teeth!" mentality....abscesses travel!! A child in our county DIED last year because her abscessed teeth had gone untreated and the infection traveled to her brain! Okay so I'm obsessing and ranting you to death...how about a little something from my 'other' job? Wrapping up my Halloween push with this little knot-style jumper. I am pleased to report that due to my eBay exposure I have enough custom orders to keep me busy for a couple of weeks! Food basket deposits are creeping up and I soon should be able to send the money for another couple of months worth of food for Mari's birth family, yeah!!

  1. it's amazing how little you get to treat school kids. I was absolutely SHOCKED when I went into the school clinic side of work and found NOTHING for emergencies. Thankfully I did finally lobby enough and got an AED unit as well as a neb machine!!!geeeshhhhh........Sad but our district doesn't even provide the dental services though, just the required State screening!

  5. HOw awesome I didn't know you did that as a job. I just set Maya up for her appointment, I do every 6 months but have to seperate a cleaning one time and an exam the next becasue we can't afford it, no insurance. I was planning on doing sealants on her molars since they have really really deep creaveses (good lord I can't spell) but I had thought they were $25 a tooth and I was panicing at that, but no its $50 a tooth and I called around, so she wont' be getting any. I just keep religousley using the sonic care on her.
I love the dress you made it is just fantastic. Poor Julia, I don't blame her for wanting a horse, the only reason Maya got one is that she can ride a tiny pony for a long time and they eat nothing, I trim their feet so really they cost next to nothing even to buy (thanks grandparents). Horses are really expensive is there a place around where she could take lessons or lease or part lease a horse with someone else? They are wonderful animals and teach kids so much about responsibilty plus I love the way they smell.
