Sunday Shower

Day late but no dollar poorer! Today was "Back to Work" day for Mom so I had to delay my Sunday post until today...and maybe you'll get today's post tomorrow??? No promises! First I do feel the need to show you one last picture from Saturday.... one simply DOES NOT try to interrupt Auntie Peggy during the Notre Dame football game!! So here is a picture showing the overwhelming enthusiasm she showed to getting two new work scrubs. To be fair, for all Peggy does for me, the two scrubs are a pittance of payment so I let her watch her game instead of making her sit up and smile...like I would the girls. Sunday dawned bright and warm and we were off to a bridal shower. This was the FIRST 'official' bridal shower for the two girls who were not quite sure what to expect. The Bride-to-Be is the fiance of my oldest nephew and Big Mike has really worked at including all of his first cousins in his big day! This wedding and shower bear all the hallmarks of being planned and carried out by the young and inexperienced...much to our entertaining pleasure! The registry at Bed, Bath, and Beyond was TWENTY-SEVEN pages long!! After a page and a half of items like a Margarita maker, $30 corkscrews, couch-side mini fridge, wine racks, Martini glasses....what do we see??? A home BREATHALYZER?!?!?! ROFL!!! Clearly there is going to be alcohol consumption! The Target registry must have been done on a day when Big Mike was in attendance. Besides the very curious need for EIGHT different salt and pepper shakers, the new couple seem to be in dire need of duct tape, ShamWows, and seat covers for their cars?!?! Clearly a case of scan gun mania!!! Even the youngest in our family was included...much to his unhappiness!! The little ring bearer would rather decline, thank you :) Here's our newest family member with one of her gifts. One of her girl friends felt so bad about being too intimidated to take on the wedding cake order that she made her a red velvet cupcake tree! Big Mike's sister, Heather, will hopefully ease the poor girl's transition into our huge, loud, Irish clan! My girls are still trying to fully embrace the relationship complexities since Heather is their first cousin just like Mairead and Deirdre but she's "a grown up!" This was also their first time witnessing their Mom and Aunt being raucous with our sister-in-laws and nieces...and they were NOT pleased. Apparently we embarrassed them in our Bride Bingo disrespect...I mean, come on!!! Eight salt & pepper shakers on the registry and they do NOT get a one???? And what do you do when the bride casually mentions as she opens a 15 piece pots and pans set, that she doesn't know how to cook?!? We're supposed to just ignore that little bit of humor handed out on a silver platter? It may be a while before they come to another bridal shower. Alyssa was there too! She was probably mildly embarrassed also but the hefty portion of strawberries in the filling of the cake made it all good. My diva decided that any party that passes out PINK rings that light up mustn't be all that bad. They were part of a game and as soon as the game ended Julia ripped the ring off as fast as she could and gave it to Mari. I decided that she might as well have mine too. That prompted Peggy to give her her's too and after a big, happy sigh she said, "Wow, almost one for every finger!" Two of Jess's aunts could not contain their chuckles as they offered up theirs too!! By the time we left she DID have one on EVERY finger!!! The flower girl was not exactly into this whole shower thing at first, either. The rehearsal should be quite interesting..... But she did eventually warm up to the whole picture thing as soon as the wrapping paper started to fly! The little blond was ALL OVER this whole wedding thing and would have made a great flower girl but young brides never take into account how temperamental toddlers can be on big days! So imagine having TWO toddlers to handle...one of whom is really NOT happy about the whole 'smile for the camera' scenario!! Ethan was bolting for the door while everyone was trying to get a 'pre-wedding' pose of the couple with their youngest attendants :) Going to be fun!...for us observing anyhow.

  3. maybe they are just to young to appreciate the humor you and your sister found. sounded funny to me too. your Mari is looking grown up -- not adult -- just growing up. Julia and Mari are beautiful girls.
