Muffin Mania

Been playing a little more with my camera. Still a pure amateur but figuring a few things out. Also been baking a little more these days. Trying to keep it a little healthier and more fiscally responsible. Mix the two together and you get this....

Had taken heed of some advice to shred all the end of the season zucchini from our garden and freeze to use during the winter. Had my doubts about the quality of thawed zucchini but it worked beautifully! Now for the photography advice....well the Macro was definitely turned on but I just could NOT get my camera to actually focus when I tried to zoom in for a muffin close-up!! I tried almost every single pre-set on the camera and I adjusted how far away I stood thus affecting how much I had to zoom in on the muffins. I did 're-learn' that if I moved further away I could get a sharper focus on my zoom feature...but then I lost the effect of the flash? Not really thinking I'm the props and lighting kind of photographer in the making...but I did rearrange the muffins in a pile directly under one of my kitchen pendents to help with lighting. It looks like I might have to bite the bullet and get a tutorial on how to wean myself from the pre-sets...go manual ... but I'm waaaay intimidated at the thought!

Sooooo close to 'getting' how to adjust the field of focus! Just wish I had zoomed in a little closer to get more of her eyes and less muffin proportionality but glad I figured out the setting to get those gorgeous eyes rather than the muffins!!! Mari's been having a STELLAR month with mood/emotions but I still only got one take on this shot...because she wouldn't wait another moment to grab one and start gobbling it down! Hoping to find some time to play around with this one in Photoshop to see if I can learn how to give some of my near misses a new chance at stardom.

  1. that first shot is magazine material !! I know what you mean about trying to zoom and focus on macro, and the flash always (always) messes me up. it's fun to practice isnt it?

  2. I think your two shot are fabulous and You muffins look yummy!
My goal this year is to also get better at all my setting on the camera. So much to learn and so little time!

    Have a great weekend!
